We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Engineer to join our clients team and manage the financial aspects of a major project within a highly regulated industry. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager and wider team to control, monitor, and report on project performance. This is an opportunity to contribute to a flagship programme with a budget in the hundreds of millions, ensuring cost efficiency and financial control throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead cost and schedule review meetings to assess project performance.
- Develop and maintain work breakdown structures (WBS) and ensure effective use of project coding.
- Monitor and analyse cost trends, prepare impact assessments, and generate monthly performance reports.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and clients.
- Oversee project changes and trends, escalating significant issues to relevant decision-makers.
- Manage and update Estimates at Completion (EAC), ensuring accurate financial reporting for the total project lifecycle.
- Integrate resource and contract-driven costs into a unified data set, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Analyse resource levels and associated cost drivers to maintain cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with accounting and management systems to align cost and schedule data.
- Present financial and project data in clear, concise formats in line with client reporting standards and Earned Value Management (EVM) processes.
- Use cost and schedule data to identify key project risks and issues.
- Attend project and progress meetings, gathering critical information for accurate forecasting.
- Introduce innovative methods to improve the flow of information and reporting accuracy.
- Conduct variance analysis and contribute to project reports with structured, data-driven insights.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
- Strong experience in project controls, with a particular emphasis on cost management.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively in a PMO team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to present data and reports to senior stakeholders.
- Experience in NEC3/4 contract management and the nuclear industry (preferred).
